LAHORE: No sim will work on stolen mobile phones under an Equipment Identity Registration System to be launched soon, said Federal Information Technology Minister Awais Leghari.

Talking to journalists at the Annual Job Carnival held at University of Central Punjab on Saturday, the minister said mobile phone number portability had heightened competition among companies and they were taking measures to provide improved services to consumers.

He said the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority was protecting telecom subscribers’ rights and monitoring mobile phone companies’ performance.

Awais Leghari said the Eitesalat Group would pay its first instalment of $1.4 billion in the next few days after which it will be given the administrative control of PTCL.

He said the government would not take steps against employees’ interests and rights.
